Lace for the Scouts

Scouting is a voluntary educational movement for young people open to all. Scouts are creating a better world by educating young people into responsible citizens and active members of their communities who are capable and eager to change things for the better.

In August 2014, The Scout Association of Slovenia (Zveza tabornikov Slovenije) will host the 40th World Scout Conference, the governing and main strategic body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) with 40 millions members around the world. The Conference will bring together over 1000 participants, Scout leaders of different cultures from over 150 countries.

The venue of World Scout Conference, Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, will be hosting another large event in 2016 – 17th World Lace Congress and General Assembly of the Interantional Bobbin and Needle Lace Organisation (OIDFA). About 1000 registered Congress participants and several thousands of lace enthusiasts from all over the world are expected.

We wish to interlace these two great events. It is our wish to show a part of our tradition, in the form of handmade bobbin lace, which represents the logo of Scout Association of Slovenia. This way the attention of the guests from all over the world would be drawn to the extensive bobbin lace traditon in Slovenia, the beauty of this woderful handicraft, as well as promote approaching World Lace Congress.

We invite lace-makers to donate some of their time and make a lace for Scouts. All laces will be promptly presented in the virtual lace gallery, at the webpage:, and exhibited at the upcoming World Scout Conference. At the end of the Conference lace made by Slovene lace-makers will be given as a present to scout delegations.
