The World Scout Conference is the governing body, the “general assembly” of Scouting, and is composed of members from all of the National Scout Organizations within WOSM. Its function is to consider the policy and standards of the Scout Movement throughout the world, formulate the general policy of the World Organization and take the action required to further the purpose of the Movement.
Some of the functions of the Conference are to elect members of the World Scout Committee, admit new member countries, and select the venues for forthcoming World Scout Events, namely World Scout Jamborees, World Scout Moots, World Scout Conferences and World Scout Youth Forums.
The Conference will take place from the 11th to 15th of August 2014 in Ljubljana (www.visitljubljana.si).
The designated arrival and departure days are:
- Conference arrivals: Saturday, 9 August and Sunday, 10 August (some preparatory sessions and other side events are planned for Sunday afternoon)
- Conference departures: Saturday, 16 August and Sunday, 17 August
The 40th World Scout Conference will take place at Gospodarsko razstaviš?e – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre (www.ljubljanafair.com), the largest convention venue in Slovenia with 13,139 square metres that are covering 20 multifunctional halls and 8,844 square metres of outside space.
It hosts all types of business events on a regular basis (congresses, seminars, various workshops, concerts and other entertainment and cultural events).
The halls can be arranged to seat from 15 to 4,000 delegates and the majority has daylight. The area is covered with wireless internet connection.
GR lies near the main Ljubljana Railway and Bus Stations and is within easy walking distance (less than 1 km) from the city centre, where there are numerous accommodation possibilities including the proposed conference hotels.
The venue will not only provide a quality working environment for the conference, but also give our guests an opportunity to discover Ljubljana and enjoy its pleasant summer vibe. The Host Committee is also planning various events for participants at different locations, including Tivoli Park, Ljubljana Castle and Križanke Summer Theatre.
